One of the purpose of building this TipsArea (TPA) website is to experience the various subjects involved in the process. So I would also like to share the journey in my posts. You are witness of the growing of this website from the beginning.

One of the problem all website owners facing is “how to monetize your website“?

Well, there are many ways to do it. Ads is the first thing that comes to my mind.

I am going to try to add some ads from Google AdSense today. In case you don’t know what AdSense is,  it is a very powerful tool for making money from website offered by Google. You can add ads for feeds, searches, videos, and even for the domain you have not yet developed.

It only takes several steps to setup and add ads in the website.

Step 1: Setup a Google AdSense Account

If you don’t already have an AdSense account with Google, you need to setup one with your Google account. In the application, we need to specify which website will be used for the ads and the language used.

After submitting the application, within 1 day or two, you will receive an email from Google AdSense team confirming the approval of you application.

Step 2: Add an “Ad unit” in AdSense

When the AdSense account is approved, you can proceed to add “Ad unit” in the website. Log in the AdSense account and go to “My ads”-> New ad unit. There are many different types and sizes of the ads you can add. Choose something that can fit into your website.

Make sure to read the policy https://support.google.com/adsense/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1346295&topic=1307438&ctx=topic

You might find something that you very much attempted to do but forbidden by the policy, such as clicking the ads to test it out.

Step 3: Add the “Ad unit” in your website

After the ad unit is setup, you can get the implementation source code by clicking “Get code”.

In WordPress it is very easy to add the implementation code to the website by using “Text” widget. Go to Dashboard-> Appearance-> Widgets, drag the “Text” widget to where you wanted. I choose to add to the side bar because it will show up in every blog posts thus maximize the appearance of the ads.

After adding the ads in the website, the ads area might be blank for sometime until the Google AdSense team send you another email confirming the ads is effective.

Well, the final result is what you can see at the right hand side of the blog posts.
