If you want to use Ubuntu on a Windows machine, you should try Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). It was introduced in Windows 10 and runs much faster than using Virtual Machines.

You can find many tutorials on how to install the WSL online. One issue for using Ubuntu through WSL is that you will need to install X server to run applications with GUI. The X server tools many people recommended are Xming X Server for Windows and XcXsrv.

These are all good options for X server. But I feel using MobaXterm is a much better option for me. As many of us are already using this versatile tool to access servers and remote machines.

It turns out that you can create a WSL session directly just as SSH or FTP sessions in the MobaXterm.

All you need to do is just to connect to the WSL session you created. And your applications are working perfectly with the default X server.

Let us know if works the same for you too.
